Commander 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Tukur Sponsors Inter-Schools Debate Competition As Army Day Secondary School Emerges Overall Best

In a bid to enhance educational development and creativity of secondary school students in Kano, the Commander 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, sponsored an inter secondary school debate competition. The event which was jointly organized by Headquarters 3 Brigade Nigerian Army and the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board, under the auspices of the Fagge Education Directorate, took place at Bukavu Barracks, Kano between 5th to 21st of May 2025.

The event brought together, participating students from Army Day Boys and Girls Secondary Schools and 22 other secondary schools in the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

In an outstanding colourful outing, the Army Day Girls Secondary School Bukavu Barracks emerged as the overall-best in the 2025 Zonal Inter-Schools Debate Competition.

The two-week keenly contested competition featured 24 participating schools and showcased spectacular intellectual display of talent, skills, ability, and resourcefulness. Government Secondary School Mohammed Vice Adamu and Government Secondary School Tundun Bojuwa secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in the competition.

In his closing remarks, the Special Guest of Honour, Brigadier General Tukur, reiterated the commitment to improving educational standards within the Army schools and its host communities. Brigadier General Tukur noted that the competition was mainly designed to develop confidence in public speaking, research skills and creativity among students. He expressed satisfaction that the objectives had been achieved. The Commander encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and appreciated the Zonal Director, Fagge Zonal Education Directorate, for his committment, while applauding the Brigade Education officer, Major HH Gusau as well as teachers and organisers of the event for their priceless contributions to human capacity development.

Earlier in his remarks.The Executive Director, Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Hon. Rabiu Saleh Gwarzo, eulogised the Nigerian Army’s contributions to national peace and security, describing the competition as a welcome development that would go a long way in shaping the students academically. He thanked the Commander for the laudable initiative, assuring that the event shall be well presented to the State government.

The closing ceremony featured, presentation of Awards and trophies to best performing schools and individuals, as well as Award of Special Commendation to the Commander.
