Commander 6 Brigade Lauds Taraba Media As Taraba News/Sum TV Honours Him With Award Of Excellence

The Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army / Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has commended media organisations in Taraba State for their professionalism and objective reportage, as Taraba News/SUM TV honoured him with an Award of Excellence in Service and Leadership.

The commendation was made on Tuesday, 30 December 2025, during a courtesy visit by the management and crew of Taraba News/SUM TV to the Headquarters 6 Brigade Nigerian Army / Sector 3 OPWS in Jalingo, led by the Chief Executive Officer of the media organisation, Mr Olayinka Gabriel.

In his remarks, the CEO explained that the visit was part of the organisation’s end of year activities aimed at assessing public perception of key institutions in Taraba State. He noted that the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army emerged as one of the most commended institutions in 2025 due to its consistent efforts in addressing security challenges across the state. He praised the Brigade for its role in curbing banditry, kidnapping, farmers-herders clashes, and communal crises, which had previously threatened peace and stability.

Mr Olayinka further stated that the improved security situation has restored public confidence and encouraged residents, including those who had abandoned their homes due to insecurity, to return. He acknowledged that criminal activities around Jalingo metropolis and other parts of the state have significantly reduced, attributing the progress to the sustained operations of the Brigade. He also expressed appreciation to the Commander for his personal support towards the academic advancement of one of the organisation’s staff.

As a mark of appreciation, the delegation presented the Brigade Commander with a Letter of Appreciation and an Award of Excellence in Service and Leadership, recognising his exemplary leadership, gallant frontline command style, and unwavering commitment to the security of Taraba State.

In his response, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa expressed gratitude to the CEO and members of Taraba News/SUM TV for the visit and the honour bestowed on him. He described the media as a critical stakeholder in national security, noting that its role in information dissemination, public enlightenment, confidence building, and countering misinformation cannot be overemphasised.

The Brigade Commander commended Taraba News/SUM TV for its balanced and objective reportage of military activities, stressing that Headquarters 6 Brigade Nigerian Army places high premium on civil-military relations and constructive media engagement. He assured the organisation and other media outfits in the state of the Brigade’s continued cooperation and support, in the collective pursuit of peace, security, and development.
