Commander 9 Brigade Solicits For Synergy With Other Security Agencies In Lagos

In a bid to enhance interagency collaboration for improved operational effectiveness within Lagos State, the Commander 9 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA), Brigadier General Ayokunle Olufemi Owolabi has on 17 November 2025 paid courtesy visits to Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC)/Theatre Commander (TC) Southwest Operation AWATSE, Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, and Controller Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A Nigeria Custom Service (NCS).

Brigadier General Owolabi who is also the Land Component Commander Operation AWATSE while briefing the FOC WNC/TC Joint Task Force Southwest Operation AWATSE, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, said, he came to report his assumption of command and also to pledge his readiness to work in sync with the TC’s mission command and directive for the protection of critical oil installations within the land area of Lagos State. In his response, the FOC/TC Southwest Operation AWATSE said, having worked with Brigadier General Owolabi in a different office prior to this appointment, he has no doubt there would be a resounding successes and upward trajectory of Operation AWATSE. The FOC/TC shared his mission philosophy and projections for the operation and urged the Commander 9 Brigade to key into them for the security of Lagos State which he described as the economy gate of the nation.

While at Headquarters FOU Zone A NCS and Police Headquarters Ikeja, Brigadier General Owolabi told the Controller and Commissioner of Police in separate remarks, that his visit is to acquaint himself with key security stakeholders he would be operating with, and also solicits for their cooperation and synergy for enhanced security of Lagos State. He also assured them of his full support whenever needed.

In his response, the Controller FOU Zone A NCS, Comptroller Muhammed Shuaibu, said he has enjoyed tremendous support from 9 Brigade, especially during joint patrols at the borders. He further stated that the NCS has enjoyed a good working relationship with 9 Brigade and hoped the synergy would be solidified now that the new Commander is someone he has worked with in the past. He said 9 Brigade has been a family to him, and he equally implored the Brigade Commander to make FOU Zone A his home.

Similarly, in his response, the CP Lagos State Command, CP Olahundare Jimoh, said both the police and military operate in a civil environment though with different mandates but all geared towards achieving a peaceful and safer Lagos State. He further stated that the interagency rivalry between junior cadre personnel is now a thing of the past, which has given rise to esprit-de-corps and enhanced interagency cooperation among personnel of both agencies.

The highlight of the visits include inspection of quarter guards, group photographers, and signing of visitors’ books, among others.
