
Commander Nigerian Navy Ship Victory Pays Courtesy Visit To Cross River State Governor
On Monday 17 February 2025, the newly appointed Commander Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) VICTORY, Commodore A Oride paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, to formally introduce himself and discuss ongoing naval operations in the state.
During the meeting at the Government House in Calabar, Commodore Oride informed the governor of his assumption of duty and briefed him on the operational activities of NNS VICTORY. He also expressed gratitude for the state’s continuous support to the Nigerian Navy (NN), particularly the assistance given to his predecessor. One of the key points discussed was the NN’s deployment of a houseboat in Ibaka area, which has significantly improved maritime security, allowing fishing activities to resume and thrive in the region.
In his response, the Governor welcomed Commodore Oride to Cross River State and assured him of the government’s unwavering support. He emphasised the importance of strengthening the existing relationship between the NN and the state, commending the efforts of the previous Base Commander. On the Bakassi maritime security project, the Governor expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla for prioritising the initiative and acknowledged the NN’s role in ensuring security within the state’s waterways.
In attendance were the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, State Security Adviser, Major General Obono (Rtd) ably represented by Special Adviser Surveillance and Operations, Mr. Austin Wonor, Special Adviser General Duties, Barr. Dr. Ekpenyong Akiba amongst others.
