Commander Sector 3 Emphasizes Importance Of Training For Troops’ Tactical Skills, Inaugurates Basic Field Officers Course

The Commander Sector 3 Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) and Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Brigadier General Suleiman Tilawan, has stressed the pivotal role of continuous training in enhancing troops’ tactical skills and survival. The Commander made the revelation while inaugurating students of the Basic Field Officers Course 1/2025 at Headquarters Sector 3 Training School in Monguno.

Emphasizing the need for a battle-focused approach to effectively counter emerging challenges, General Tilawan noted that the course was designed to prepare Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) for grant of Field Commission as approved by Army Headquarters to fill the critical shortage in the number of subalterns needed to effectively command the troops. He emphasized that the initiative is seen as an action that would enhance operational efficiency of formations and units in the sector’s Area of Responsibility and curtail setbacks experienced in the fight against insurgency.

While divulging that the two-week training exercise would focus on brushing up their knowledge on practical skills that are of priority to the Theatre operations, he affirmed, “Our most important duty is that we must work hard to make our soldiers not only win but also stay alive.”

In his welcome address, the Chief Instructor, Colonel Mohammed Fakandu, highlighted that the initiative of giving Field ranks to competent SNCOs who have distinguished themselves in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities would further enhance their knowledge in leadership and improve their skills in weapon training, operational security measures, routine in defense, minor tactics, and field training. While urging the students to approach the training with seriousness, dedication, and commitment to derive maximum benefit, he assured optimal training to the students to enhance their tactical abilities.

The participants were drawn from the Sector Headquarters and the three formations under the Sector. The inauguration was attended by Commanders, Principal Staff Officers, and senior Officers of the Sector. The event concluded with a group photograph.
