Comptroller Atuluku Reinforces Staff Welfare, Commissions Revamped Clinic, Quarter Guard in PH

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harcourt Area I Command, has commissioned a newly renovated Staff Clinic and Quarter Guard at its Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, reaffirming the Service’s commitment to staff welfare, occupational health, safety and operational efficiency.

The commissioning ceremony was disclosed in a statement signed on Friday, 30 January 2026, by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I, Barilule Aanee, on behalf of the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku, who said the project reflects the Service’s broader policy of translating welfare commitments into practical infrastructure improvements.

Speaking during the ceremony, the CAC said the initiative was driven by the critical role of staff health and safety in effective service delivery. She explained that upon assuming duty in September 2025, the Staff Clinic was found to be in a dilapidated condition, necessitating urgent intervention.

“The wellbeing of our officers and men remains a top priority for this Command. A healthy workforce is fundamental to operational effectiveness and this renovated clinic will ensure timely medical attention, improved morale and enhanced productivity. This intervention aligns with the Comptroller-General’s vision of translating welfare policies into tangible benefits for personnel on the ground,” Comptroller Atuluku stated.

Comptroller Atuluku outlined the scope of the rehabilitation works, which included restoration and connection of electricity, repainting of the facility, replacement of window blinds, floor tiling, repairs to key medical bays, comprehensive restocking of the pharmacy and other upgrades aimed at improving functionality and the quality of healthcare services.

She acknowledged the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi and members of the Management Team for their purposeful leadership, policy direction and consistent support for welfare-focused and infrastructure development initiatives across the Service, noting that such backing made the successful completion of the project possible.

Management Team members, led by the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Enforcement, Inspection and Investigation, DCG Timi Bomodi, alongside the Zonal Coordinator, Zone C, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Kamal Mohammed, attended the event. Also present were Comptrollers of Customs from formations across Zone C, heads and representatives of sister security agencies, as well as officers and men of the Service.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Zonal Coordinator, Zone C, ACG Kamal Mohammed, described the renovated clinic as a strategic asset that will enhance productivity, boost morale and strengthen institutional efficiency. He commended the Port Harcourt Area I Command for its vision, teamwork and adherence to established Service standards in executing the project.

The upgraded Staff Clinic is expected to serve officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service, while also supporting inter-agency cooperation by providing access to sister security agencies and stakeholders within the port community.
