Comptroller Balogun Assumes Leadership of Customs FOU Zone ‘C’ Owerri

The Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘C’, Owerri, has undergone a change in leadership as Comptroller Bashir Balogun assumes office, succeeding Comptroller Michael Ugbagu, who has officially retired from the Service.

This was announced in a statement issued on Monday, 24 March 2025, by the Unit’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Rose Nche.

At the handover ceremony at the Unit’s headquarters in Owerri, Imo State capital, the retiring Comptroller, Michael Ugbagu, reflected on his tenure and expressed gratitude for the support he received from officers and sister agencies. He urged them to extend the same level of cooperation to his successor while commending their dedication to the Service.

In his inaugural speech, Comptroller Balogun expressed appreciation for his predecessor’s achievements and pledged to build on the foundation laid.

Reaffirming his commitment to the NCS mandate, he outlined his priority areas, including anti-smuggling operations, trade facilitation, revenue protection, and national security. He also urged officers to maintain professionalism, discipline, and dedication in their duties.

Comptroller Balogun further promised to operate an open-door policy, encouraging collaboration with officers, sister agencies, and host communities to ensure smooth operations within the Unit’s jurisdiction. He called for the continued support of all stakeholders to achieve shared objectives.

After the ceremony, Comptroller Balogun, the outgoing Comptroller, and senior officers toured the Unit’s facilities.
