Corps Commander Education Charges Graduates Of The Command Day Secondary School Ikeja To Be Disciplined and Focused

The Corps Commander Education, Nigerian Army, Major General Bello Alhaji Tsoho has charged the graduating students to be disciplined and focused wherever they find themselves. He gave the charge during the 2023 Valedictory Service/Speech and Prize Giving Ceremony at Command Day Secondary School, Nigerian Army Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos State on 16 August 2023.

He commended the Commandant for being hardworking and showing exemplary leadership. He further advised the graduating students to strive and always do the right thing in the pursuit of their aspirations. He further urged them to always discern right from wrong, and always choose to do the right thing even though everyone else does otherwise.

General Tsoho is a firm believer of recognition for excellence which is one of the cardinal principles of his Blueprint. Therefore, he avowed that the Headquarters Nigerian Army Education Corps (NAEC) will strive to institutionalize the recognition framework. The aim is to reposition the entire command schools all over the nation by restructuring how they are administered for effective teaching and learning. Therefore, he believes that the decision of the Corps to provide essential reward packages for students of Command schools nationwide is highly essential.

The Corps Commander used the unique opportunity to announce two categories of awards that will be sponsored at the level of Headquarters NAEC. These include a cash award of one million Naira to be distributed to the 3 best students in order to merit at the annual JAMB, WAEC and NECO Examinations. He also noted that the Commandants at various levels will equally be directed to replicate these efforts in their respective schools to further institutionalize the reward system.

Additionally, General Tsoho noted the rewards system was a special idea conceived when he was the Commandant at the Command Day Secondary School Enugu State. Therefore, as the Corps Commander of the Nigerian Army Education Corps, he is seeking to institutionalize the idea. He further noted that any student from any command secondary school all over the country that earns A or B only at the WAEC and NECO Examinations will receive the Corps Commander Education’s special award. He averred that it has been done before now and has proven to impact positively on students’ performance.

The Command Day Secondary School, Ikeja is not only unique but special because out of the over 46 Command schools nationwide, so far, Command Day Secondary School Ikeja is the first school which the Corps Commander attended its Speech and Prize-Giving Ceremony. He further noted the guest speaker at the event who spoke on the theme “If you can think it, you can achieve it” was an revered resource person who delivered the lecture seamlessly. He urged the graduating students to go forth and conquer, that he believes they can make it. He alluded to the fact that their respective acquired capacity, training, competences, skills and values can take them through the journey.

Earlier, the Commandant of Command Day Secondary School Ikeja, Lieutenant Colonel CB Obida in his welcome address emphasised the quality education provided by command schools across the nation. He noted the successes already achieved by the schools were going to be consolidated due to the Corps Commanders new impetus and strategic guidance which are all articulated in his Blueprint. He further urged the graduating students to remain focused and be resilient as they have all the necessary values and skill sets to put them on the path of prosperity and success.

The Guest Speaker, Mr Fela Durotoye who is the President of Gemstone Group earlier counselled the graduating student to be good ambassadors in their endeavours. He charged them to be disruptive in their thinking as if you think it you can achieve it. He equally urged them to be creative and focus on the world ahead of them with enthusiasm.

Other dignitaries in attendance were the Commander 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General AM Adetuyi, Director 81 Division Education Service Brigadier General AA Ahmed, Director Nigerian Army Archives Brigadier General AA Mohammed and other directors in various capacities in Education Corps and other commandants of Command schools within 81 Division area.
