Reports indicate that assailants suspected to be Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC) rebels on Tuesday March 23 attacked a United Nations (UN) humanitarian convoy in Bakouma, Central African Republic (CAR).
Sources say the rebels stole seven of the nine vehicles in the convoy, which were on an evacuation mission from Bangassou to Bakouma, where thousands of residents are living under poor and distressing conditions following a violence that emanated before the second round of the legislative elections held on March 14.
It was gathered that the assailants seized the UN vehicles before forcing the humanitarian workers into the other two vehicles and ordered them to return to Bangassou.
However, the UN has not issued an official statement stating that the humanitarian workers on an evacuation mission in Bakouma have returned to Bangassou.
