Customs Cadets Continue Study Tour, Visit MMIA Command

In order to gain more expertise and garner a practical understanding of Customs Operations at the Airport, the Cadets from the Customs Training College, Ikeja, on Wednesday, 9 July 2023, led by the Commandant, Deputy Comptroller Haniel Hadison, embarked again on a study tour to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The visit immediately commenced with an engaging presentation by the Airport Command team, highlighting the various departments and functions that contributed to the efficient flow of goods and passengers through the Airport were given detailed insights ranging from Cargo handling to passenger clearance protocols.

Speaking during the inspection, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mahmoud Gidado, revealed that the tour would provide an invaluable opportunity for the Cadets to witness practical operations of Customs procedures and Airport logistics.

“The Cadets are privileged to tour the various sections of the Airport, accompanied by knowledgeable guides.” He explained the intricacies of Customs inspections, baggage handling and immigration procedures.”

“They will also learn the meticulous process of cargo examination, understanding how Customs Officers identify and address potential contraband and illicit activities as well as the crucial role technology plays in modern customs operations, from advanced scanning equipment to automated customs clearance systems.”

He praised the cadets’ enthusiasm and reiterated the Airport’s commitment to collaborating with educational institutions to foster knowledge and a better understanding of the Customs role at the Airport.

He also revealed that Customs Officers do not work in isolation, but rather, they work as a team with other sister Agencies for national development and retaining its integrity.

The Customs Training College Commandant expressed his satisfaction with the tour, noting that such hands-on experiences are essential for shaping the cadets into competent and well-rounded Customs Officers.

He emphasised that exposure to real-world scenarios is a valuable supplement to theoretical training, and the study tour will not only deepen their understanding of Customs operations but will also inspire them to strive for excellence in their future roles as Customs Officers.

The Cadets expressed their gratitude for the enlightening experience and the opportunity to interact with seasoned Professionals in the field.

In another development, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Immigration in charge of Zone A, ACG Kehinde Sadiq, paid an inspection visit to the Ikeja Training College ahead of the promotional examination for Immigration Senior Officers.

Addressing the Media, ACG Sadiq emphasised the crucial role of cooperation and synergy between Immigration and Customs authorities in ensuring the smooth execution of these significant assessments.

Noting that his Primary objective of visiting was to evaluate the facilities, logistical arrangements, and overall procedures that would be employed during the promotional exams for his personnel.

He further stated the importance of working harmoniously across different Agencies, “Our collaboration is essential not only for the success of these exams but also for the greater efficiency and effectiveness of our agencies.”

In response, the Commandant Customs Training Collage, Haniel Hadison, expressed his gratitude to have the ACG of Immigrations in the College with the view of bringing his senior personnel for examination. He acknowledged that the two agencies have been engaging in activities that will solidify the bond.

He noted that this collaborative endeavour not only serves as a testament to the commitment of both agencies to working together but also sends a strong message about the importance of inter-agency cooperation in safeguarding the nation’s integrity and upholding the rule of law through the promotion of transparency, accountability and shared goals. “We can elevate the capabilities of our personnel and strengthen our nation’s security.” He added.
