Customs Hands Over Intercepted Firearms to NCCSALW, Records 8.8% Revenue Growth

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command, on Friday, 30 January 2026, handed over intercepted firearms and ammunition to the South-West Zonal Coordinator of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), in line with inter-agency collaboration and national security protocols.

Addressing journalists during a media briefing, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Joe Ananni, attributed the seizures to the renewed commitment of officers and men of the Command to enforcing the Service’s statutory mandate.

“These seizures are fallout of the collective due diligence of the command and other sister agencies in the port. We are using this occasion to reiterate that PTML remains a no go area for unlawful trade under any guise”, he stated.

The CAC noted that the handover was in compliance with the directive of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, under whose supervision the seizures were made.

The items include five pistols of various types, one Crossman Pumpmaster rifle, 132 rounds of Remington live cartridges, 51 rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition, four 9mm magazines, 40 rounds of assorted 9mm blank and hollow ammunition, as well as 118 empty 9mm shells.

According to the CAC, the arms and ammunition were intercepted on 25 different occasions during the examination of imported vehicles between 2022 and 2025.

“As a command, we have an unshaken commitment to implement the Revised Kyoto Convention, which is a World Customs Organisation (WCO) instrument for trade facilitation while using available manpower and technology to exercise the required control for import and export trade”, he said.

He also highlighted the impact of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu, on productivity and professionalism within the Service. He disclosed that the Command would soon receive scanners as part of ongoing modernisation efforts to further enhance operational efficiency.

Comptroller Ananni expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their continued compliance and cooperation, while announcing that the Command recorded significant revenue growth in January 2026.

He revealed that PTML Command generated a total of ₦44.06 billion in January 2026, surpassing the ₦40.49 billion collected in the corresponding period of 2025, representing an 8.8 per cent increase in revenue.

Formally receiving the seized items, the South-West Coordinator of NCCSALW, CP Alamutu Abiodun (rtd), commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its cooperation and professionalism.

He assured that the seized arms would be professionally managed in line with established procedures.
