Customs Strengthens Collaboration With Monarch, Others, Vows To Conquer Smuggling

The Ondo/Ekiti Customs Area Command, in its deliberate effort to subdue smuggling, has deepened its partnership with the Monarch of Ado-Ekiti, the State’s traditional ruler.

This move was conveyed in a press statement signed on 12 July 2024 by the Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Aondoakura Dzungwenen, on behalf of the Customs Area Controller.

According to the statement, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Morenikeji Bewaji, paid a courtesy visit to the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba Alayeluwa Ewi Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III, on Monday 8 July 2024.

The CAC, in her speech, emphasised the significance of the royal father’s alliance, teamwork as well as support in maintaining peaceful coexistence in the state.

Comptroller Bewaji, while speaking on the mandate of Customs to generate revenue, suppress smuggling, and facilitate trade, emphasised the support of His Royal Majesty in enlightening his wards on the ills and dangers of smuggling to the Nigerian economy.

On his part, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, who was ably represented by the Council of Chiefs of Ewi palace, assured the Ondo/Ekiti Customs Area Controller of His Majesty’s unwavering support and collaboration while underscoring that the people of the kingdom are law-abiding, and as such, will make her work easy and enable her to achieve her constitutional mandate in the state.

In an akin development, Comptroller Bewaji earlier visited the Nigerian Navy Forwarding Operation Base Igbokoda, the Nigeria Police Force Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, alongside the Federal Fire Service Akure.

All these meetings, according to the statement, place a robust emphasis on the inevitability of consolidating collaboration and unmatched synergy toward suppressing the act of smuggling in and around the State.
