Dalet Battalion Triumphs At 2025 Cadets’ Brigade Inter-Battalion Cross Country Competition

In a remarkable display of grit, discipline and unwavering battalion spirit, Dalet Battalion clinched a commanding victory at the 2025 Cadets’ Brigade Inter-Battalion Cross Country Competition held on Saturday, 6 December 2025, at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Afaka Kaduna State.

The fiercely contested race kicked off at the Tri-Service Gate, and covered a demanding 14km route across the NDA. Cadets from Mogadishu, Abyssinia, Burma and Dalet Battalions pushed through the physically and mentally challenging course, showcasing exceptional endurance and determination. The atmosphere at the RSM Oliver Nzalgana parade ground the finishing point, remained electric as spectators cheered on the spirited competition.

Speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour, Major General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye, Commandant NDA, represented by the Director of Military Training (DMT), Brigadier General Taiye Ahmed, delivered a stirring remark in which he underscored the enduring importance of physical fitness in military service. He noted that strength and endurance remain indispensable assets to every soldier, particularly in moments when weapons alone are insufficient. He urged cadets to continuously push their limits in preparation for future national defence responsibilities.

The Commandant also commended the Cadets Brigade Commander, Brigadier General AN Eze, for successfully hosting the competition, as well as the Chief Judge, officials, and support teams whose professionalism ensured a seamless and memorable event. Their collective efforts, he noted, reinforced the Academy’s reputation for excellence in training and discipline.

Announcing the results earlier, the Chief Judge, Lieutenant Colonel IF Alison, commended all participants for their discipline, resilience and sportsmanship. Dalet Battalion emerged champions with an impressive 11,100 points, securing the coveted trophy. Abyssinia Battalion followed closely with 11,010 points, while Burma Battalion finished third with 10,450 points. Mogadishu Battalion took fourth place with 9,750 points.

A major highlight of the day was the recognition of outstanding performances. Exceptional cadets in both the male and female categories who emerged top 3 among equals, were presented medals and token for their individual achievements. Additionally, Brig Gen UM Ibrahim (Retired) and some members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving at the Academy were recognised for their commendable participation.

The ceremony reached its peak with the presentation of the championship trophy to Dalet Battalion, celebrated for their resilience, teamwork and exemplary combat readiness.

The 2025 Cadets’ Brigade Inter-Battalion Cross Country Competition not only showcased athletic brilliance, but also reaffirmed the NDA’s unwavering commitment to producing officers whose strength, professionalism and unity continue to command respect across Nigeria and beyond.
