
Defence Correspondents Visit Operation Hadin Kai, Obtain First Hand Information On Military’s Efforts In Counter-Insurgency Operations
In a bid to obtain first-hand information on the ongoing military efforts in Counter – Insurgency operations in the North East region, Defence Correspondents led by the Deputy Director Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Mohammed Abumawashi, visited Theatre Command Headquarters, Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (JTF NE OPHK) in Maiduguri, on 27 May 2025.
While delivering his remarks, the Theatre Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar said, it was gladening to receive the Defence Correspondents in the theatre of operations, noting that as members of the fourth estate of the realm, they play critical role, especially in their reportage of ongoing asymmetric warfare.
General Abdulsalam stressed that regular interface with the military in the frontlines, through on – the – spot assessment, and interactions with locals where troops are deployed, would go a long way, in building mutual trust. He added that through such engagements, misconseptions about military operations could be addressed, especially those disseminated through social media.
He commeded the Defence Correspondents for their patriotic mindsets in reporting the ongoing military operations, emphasizing that through their reportage, the untold sacrifices of the military, are brought to the public domain. He assured that OPHK remains undetered and committed to its course of creating an enabling environment for socio-economic activities to thrive in the North East region.
Earlier, the team leader Brigadier Abumawashi, stated that the purpose of the visit, was for the Defence Correspondents to interact with frontline formations and units, so as to tell the true pictutre of what the military was doing. This he added, is the brain child of the Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, who deemed it necessary for the correspondents to interface directly with troops in the field.
High points of the visit; were presentation of brief on activities of OPHK, robust interactive session, endorsement of visitor’s book, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
