The Defence Headquarters has finalised plans to conduct a Joint Operations Planning Exercise (JOPEX), for participants at the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN), Naval War College Nigeria (NWCN) and Air Force War College Nigeria (AWCN).
This Military exercises are scheduled to take place from 1–7th of November, 2021 at the Army War College of Nigeria, domiciled at the W.U Bassey Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja.
This exercise is codenamed: Exercise SKY LOCK. It is the maiden edition and organized by the DHQ for the 3 Services War Colleges at the instance of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor.
At the end of the training, participants are expected to fully grasp the ability to effectively and efficiently respond to contemporary security challenges militating against the country, via a joint and multi-agency approach.
According to the Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, DHQ, Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko; “The exercise involves the aspects of national security, inter-agency co-ordination, logistics planning, counter terrorism, counter insurgency and stabilization operations”
“It would also provide a forum for the participants who are being trained as operational commanders and staff to practice planning, preparation and conduct of these aspects under different scenarios.”
The week-long training exercise is expected to draw “Umpires, observers and visitors from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Paramilitary, and international Military partners, among others”, according to Gen. Onyeuko.
The training exercise is to be declared opened by the Special Guest of Honour, CDS, Gen Irabor on Monday at 0900 hours.
