Defence Minister Pledges To Improve Facilities At Depot Nigerian Army

The Honourable Minister of Defence (HMoD), Mohammed Abubakar Badaru CON, has pledged to improve facilities at Depot Nigerian Army (NA) so as to enhance training and enable the institution fulfill its mandate. The Honourable Minister made the pledge when he paid an assessment visit to DEPOT Nigerian Army (NA) today 25 March 2025 at Chindit Cantonment, Zaria Kaduna State.

The HMoD, whom was received and briefed by the Commandant Depot NA on ongoing training activities of 88 Regular Recruits Intake; promised that his ministry will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that Chindit Primary School receives an upgrade in facilities to meet modern standards as a means of boosting the morale of Officers and Soldiers of the Cantonment whose wards are the beneficiaries. He added that his office will liaise with the Kaduna State Government to ensure the completion of Chindit Secondary School which is in an abandoned state.

Also, the Honourable Minister equally pledged to assist with the drilling of additional solar powered boreholes to complement existing boreholes within Depot NA, to alleviate the challenges associated with water supply within the cantonment.

Earlier, the Commandant, DEPOT NA, Major General Ahmadu Mohammed thanked the Honourable Minister for the visit. He intimated the HMoD of the interventions of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede NAM mni as well as efforts at DEPOT aimed at ameliorating the challenges confronting Depot NA. He expressed hope and optimism that the collaborative interventions would put DEPOT NA in the right stead to deliver on its mandate of churning out high quality recruits for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The Commandant highlighted modest achievements of the institution under his watch through the guidance of the COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede NAM mni, in the face of daunting challenges. He stated that he will continue to ensure that the welfare of members of staff and recruits are adequately met in line with the COAS’ soldiers first principle in order to ensure that the institution is well positioned to meet the aspirations of Nigeria.

Present during the Visit were the Parmenent Secretary Ministry of Defence Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, the Special Adviser (Technical) to the Defence Minister Major General Ahmed Jubrin (Rtd), the General Staff Officer to the Minister of Defence Brigadier General Aminu Garba.
Also in attendance were the Commandant Armed Forces Command and Staff College Air Vice Marshal Hassan Alhaji, the Commandant Army School of Physical Training Brigadier General Musa Usman, the Commandant Nigerian Military School Brigadier General Owoicho Ejiga, the representative of the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Brigadier General Muhammed Kana, Senior Officers and other distinguished dignitaries.

The highpoint of the visit was the presentation of souvenirs, group photograph and guided tour of Depot NA Training Facilities.
