Rap guru Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is giving back to the community where he grew up by building and opening his own preparatory school called Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School.

In the United States, Charter Schools are ‘unique public schools that are allowed the freedom to be more innovative while being held accountable for advancing student achievement’. They are public schools, open to all children and do not charge tuition.

And this is what Diddy built for his neighbourhood in Harlem.

Today I was truly blessed to open up my first charter school,” the entrepreneur wrote on Instagram. “It’s in Harlem and it’s called Capital Prep. Thank you to everyone for making this possible. #dreamsdocometrue

Photos from the first day at school are drawing attention on social and this report adds that it ‘felt more a concert than the first day of school, as ecstatic students greeted their benefactor’.

I’m excited to be here,” Diddy, who started this project five years ago, said. “This is the start of something important.

And for the young children eager to learn, the rap guru said, “If I have anything to do with it, they’re going to have a fair playing field,” he said. “And they’re going to be the future leaders of our country.
