Dr. James D. Lalu Highlights Disability Inclusion at 2nd Nigeria Diversity and Inclusion Conference
In commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the Renewed Hope Administration, ably led by His Excellency Sen. Bola A. Tinubu GCFR, Dr. James D. Lalu, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, attended the 2nd Nigeria Diversity and Inclusion Conference of the Nigeria Business Disability Network. The event, hosted at the headquarters of Access Holdings in Victoria Island, Lagos, focused on the theme “Disability Inclusion in Corporate Sustainability.”
Dr. Lalu emphasized that disability inclusion is crucial for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within Nigerian corporate sustainability. Key points discussed included the importance of a strong legal framework, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, enhanced accessibility, inclusive employment practices, supply chain management, community engagement, disability awareness training, inclusive marketing, innovation, and industry collaboration.
Highlighting the “Transforming Futures” agenda of the Executive Secretary, Dr. James D. Lalu, he underscored that prioritizing disability inclusion not only enhances reputation and brand but also amplifies social impact.
During the event, Dr. Lalu presented awards of recognition to several corporations for their commitment to disability inclusion. The awardees included Access Bank, Airtel, British American Tobacco, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, FrieslandCampina, Guinness Nigeria Plc, MTN, TotalEnergies, Standard Chartered Bank, Sterling Bank, and Unilever Nigeria Plc.
The conference was well attended by prominent corporate businesses, all of which pledged their commitment to complying with the Disability Act, further solidifying their role in fostering an inclusive and sustainable corporate environment in Nigeria.
