At least 1000 persons have been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for violating the lockdown guidelines set by the State and Federal Government.
Some of them were arrested for violating the 6 am-8 pm curfew while others were arrested for interstate movement.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Lawan Jimeta disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in the State capital, Benin.
CP Jimeta noted that the right punishments were meted out to the violators.
According to him, those arrested for violating the curfew were taken various Mobile Courts in the State and those arrested at the State borders were turned back to where they were coming from.
He also asserted that those who sneaked into the state with essential products were quarantined to determine their status and such vehicles were impounded.
The CP lamented that residents of the State were still disobedient even though they have been sensitized on the need to adhere to the new lockdown guidelines.
He further appealed to the members of the public to be alert as the rate of infection of COVID-19 is increasing daily.
