EFCC, NCS in Enhanced Collaboration in Abuja

The Abuja Acting Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE 1 Michael Wetkas has called for enhanced collaboration between the Commission and the Nigeria Correctional Service, NCS, in order to develop stronger strength in the fight against economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption.

He stated this on Thursday, March 27, 2025 while receiving the Comptroller of Corrections, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command, Olatubosun Ajibogun who came on a courtesy visit to the Abuja Directorate of the EFCC.

Wetkas stated that law enforcement responsibility cannot be carried out solely by one agency. “Collaboration locally and internationally is the way to go, without which we cannot make any significant progress. You have demonstrated that by taking your time to reach out to us and extending your hand of friendship in service and to meet us for collaboration and for discussions to move our services and the nation entirely forward”, he said.

Ajibogun intimated the Zonal Director about developments in the Correctional Service, stressing that “Correctional Service now focuses on skill acquisition, reformation and rehabilitation. He appreciated the synergy between the two agencies, advising that the legal team of the EFCC should begin to explore the options of non-custodial sentencing and for convicts to be sent to the appropriate correctional centers, explaining that “the custodial center which some convicts are sent to is not in line with the sentence”.
