
Effective Communication, Not Just Support Function, But Lifeline Of Successful Military Operations – GOC 6 Division
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, has stated that effective communication is not just a support function, but a lifeline to successful military operations. He disclosed this at the graduation ceremony of the Signal Soldiers Basic Course (SSBC) 12/2025, held at the 6 Division Training School, Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.
He emphasized that the graduation of personnel from SSBC is another significant milestone in the collective effort to build a more professional NA, one that is adequately equipped to meet the demands of contemporary security challenges in the nation. The GOC maintained that the importance of effective communication cannot be overstated in the military, adding that from command and control, coordination of logistics, to tactical manoeuvering, the ability to communicate accurately, timely, and securely remains an essential factor in achieving mission success.
Speaking further, Major General Emekah said communication underscored the critical role of the NAS in the overall operational effectiveness of the NA. He therefore congratulated them on the completion of the intensive and rigorous training, which he stressed was designed to broaden their technical competence and professional capacity. He urged them to put the knowledge and skills acquired to effective use in their respective formations and units. He also commended the instructors for their dedication to duty and added that it demonstrates the resilience of the NA.
Earlier, the Commander 56 Signal Brigade (SB), Brigadier General Ibrahim Bindul, reiterated that the SSBC 12/2025 for younger soldiers was designed to assess and train them in the field of technical Signal skills that are suitable for their career progress.
Brigadier General Bindul further stated that the graduation ceremony remains a watershed in the journey of the young soldiers in NAS, as the course has inculcated in them basic technical knowledge on communication and information systems required at their level, and helped to develop their fundamental military discipline. He reminded them that the course was not the end of their learning; rather, it is the beginning of their professional career growth in the NAS. He therefore informed the personnel that the contemporary battlefield is no longer the same as it was, adding that technology evolves daily, bringing new threats and new opportunities.
The Signal Commander disclosed that communication systems are targeted in modern warfare, and any disruption can decide the fate of entire military operations. He added that it is very important for Signal personnel to learn, participate, innovate, and overcome lines of responsibility.
He charged the personnel to let their performance justify the resources and effort invested in them, adding that the NAS, NA, and the nation count on them. He thanked the GOC for his unwavering support to 56 SB, most especially for the completion of Jimmy soldiers transit accommodation.
