
Effective Use of Social Media Key to Enhancing Governance and Transparency Brig. Gen. Kuka Sheka
The need for the effective use of social media to enhance governance and promote transparency has been emphasized by Brigadier General Usman Kuka Sheka, mni.
He made the call at the closing ceremony of a three day training programme for Information Officers in the state, organized by the Ministry of Information and Orientation in collaboration with Khadilad Support Services Limited, held at Dan Kane Guest Palace, Sokoto.
Brig. Gen. Kuka Sheka, who served as one of the resource persons, delivered a PowerPoint presentation on “Leveraging Social Media for Public Communication and Social Media Influencing for Public Communication.”
He noted that as of January 2025, Nigeria had about 38.7 million active social media users, with 16 percent of them being youths. He therefore urged Information Officers in the state to make effective use of social media platforms to engage citizens and promote government initiatives.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Khadilad Support Services Limited, Muhammad Nasir Ladan, commended the resource persons for their insightful presentations. He encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training to improve public communication and service delivery.
Another resource person, Yusha’u Shuaibu, also called on the State Government to sustain and expand such capacity-building programmes for its Information Officers and social media influencers. He noted that continuous training would help strengthen public awareness of government policies, programmes, and achievements under the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu, FCNA.
At the end of the training, certificates were presented to all participants.
