Ahead of the Champions league final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in Milan, over 50,000 fans have called for the 10-time European Champions to be stripped of their first five European Cup wins following an online petition.

Goal.com reports that the petition on change.org claims the first five trophies won by Los Blancos, between 1955-56 and 1959-60, were of a completely different format from the modern Uefa Champions League.

The Spanish giants have won the European Cup and Champions League 10 times in total, and could make it 11 when they face their city rivals in a repeat of the 2014 final where they won La Decima.

However, the petition, started by Spain-based user ‘Justicia Deportiva’, or Sporting Justice, reads: “We wish to request, in the name of the values represented by the sport and by democracy, that Real Madrid’s European Cup titles won between 1955-56 and 1959-60 are immediately revoked.

“[This would be] in recognition of the fact that those trophies in no way correspond to the competition recognised today as the UEFA Champions League.”

The petition is still gathering momentum and it will be forwarded to Champions League owners UEFA once it’s complete.

Its chances of success may be slim as a previous petition started on change.org calling for the resignation of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez came unstuck.
