FG Rescues Cash-Strapped NYSC as Fashola Orders Contractors Back to Site
Following the alarm raised by the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General, Sulyman Kazaure that lack of funds might derail the exercise, the Federal Government on Tuesday ordered the immediate release of funds for the mobilization exercise of the 2016 Batch A, stream II service year.
Kazaure on Monday revealed to the Senate Committee on Youth and Sport that prospective corps members are to remain in their various homes due to non-availability of fund occasioned by the N13billion shortfall in the agency’s 2016 budget, Vanguard reports.
However, the government intervened with immediate approval and release of funds to accommodate the 2016 Batch A stream II orientation course
While reacting to the development, the NYSC in a statement signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Abosede Aderibigbe, on Tuesday, in Abuja, lauded the efforts of the Federal Government for its prompt intervention.
“Management also wishes to use this medium to inform and assure prospective corps members, parents, guardian and the general public that the 2016 Batch A stream II orientation course holds as scheduled from Saturday, May 21 to Monday, June 6, 2016 while the swearing in ceremony of the 2016 Batch A stream II corps members holds on Monday, May 23, 2016. “Prospective corps members are by this notice directed to print their call up letters online and collect from their various institutions of graduation,” the statement read in part.
