Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command Pays Familiarisation Visit To Chevron Nigeria Limited

On Wednesday, 10 September 2025, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command (FOC WNC), Rear Admiral Mike Gregory Oamen, paid a familiarisation visit to the Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited and Mid-Africa Business, Mr. Jim Swartz, at Chevron’s Lagos office.

The visit formed part of ongoing engagements between the Nigerian Navy and key stakeholders in the maritime and oil sectors, aimed at strengthening collaboration for the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.

During the visit, Rear Admiral Oamen noted that over the past decade, the Nigerian Navy has made significant investments in Maritime Domain Awareness systems and fleet renewal, in order to safeguard the nation’s territorial waters. He underscored the Navy’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a secure maritime environment, particularly in Nigeria’s western waters which host several offshore oil and gas installations. He further stressed the importance of synergy between the Navy and Chevron in protecting the nation’s energy resources against emerging threats.

In his remarks, Mr. Swartz warmly welcomed the FOC WNC and his entourage, and expressed Chevron’s appreciation for the Navy’s continued support in ensuring safety and security in Nigeria’s offshore operations. He assured Rear Admiral Oamen of Chevron’s readiness to further strengthen its partnership with the Navy in areas of mutual interest, particularly in maritime security and capacity building.
