Former Sports Minister, Abdullahi, to Replace Lai Mohammed as APC Spokesman
In a minor shakeup at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi is set to be announced as the substantive National Publicity Secretary of the party.
With the proposed move, Kwara State-born Abdullahi will officially take over from Minister of Information and acting APC spokesman, Lai Mohammed, another Kwara State indigene. This follows a party arrangement that has the position of spokesman zoned to the North-Central part of the country.
The soft-spoken Abdullahi is a staunch ally of Senate President Bukola Saraki and former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar. And he served as minister of sports under the administration of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan between 2012 and 2014.
According to Vanguard, the appointment would be officially announced before the end of the week after a meeting of the National Working Committee NWC of the party scheduled for Wednesday.
“I can tell you that everything is set. The appointment could be announced either on Tuesday or Wednesday”, said a high-ranking party source close to the plan on the condition of anonymity. Abdullahi was sighted at the party’s national secretariat on Monday, ostensibly to meet with the leadership of the party to finalise details of his appointment.
