French President Emmanuel Macron to Visit Nigeria
French President, Emmanuel Macron, will visit Nigeria in July where he will address a joint session of the National Assembly.
This was confirmed Tuesday in Abuja by the Ambassador of France to Nigeria, Mr. Denys Gauer, during a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara at the National Assembly.
Mr. Gauer recalled that Macron once worked at the French Embassy in Abuja, and remains interested in issues relating to the development of the country, Punch writes.
The envoy told Dogara that youth development and talks on cultural exchanges between the two countries would be on the agenda during the visit aimed at expanding current relations beyond security.
An elated Dogara described Macron as “a man of our generation”, before adding that it would be an interesting experience for members of the National Assembly to listen to him, particularly on how he was able to convince French voters to elect him despite his relative youth.
The House Speaker commended France for its support to Nigeria’s fight against the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast and assured the envoy of the National Assembly’s total preparedness to give legislative backing to all bilateral agreements that would be signed between Nigeria and France during Macron’s scheduled visit.
