Ghana election: President Mahama concedes defeat
Ghana’s President, John Mahama, on Friday evening called to congratulate oppostion candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, 72, the acclaimed winner of Wednesday’s presidential election in the country, BBC has confirmed.
One of Akufo-Addo’s aides, Eugene Arhin, confirmed to journalists that the President had called Akufo-Addo, candidate of the New Patriotic Party.
Mahama had previously said he would respect the outcome of the election.
He also said in a tweet that the Electoral Commission should be allowed to carry out its mandate.
Final result is expected to be declared by the EC on Saturday (today).
The commission announced on Thursday that it was manually verifying the results because its electronic system had been targeted by hackers, but urged people to ignore “fake results” circulating on social media.
