GOC 6 Division Commissions Newly Built 8 Flats Of Corporal and Below Quarters
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Forces, South South, Operations DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has commissioned a newly constructed 8-flats Corporal Below Quarters (CBQ) at Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State today, Tuesday, 28 May 2024.
In his remarks, the GOC expressed pleasure in being present to commission the CBQ, built by the Commanding Officer(CO), 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ishaya Manga. He commended the CO for aligning to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Command Philosophy, which has welfare and sound administration as a pillar. Furthermore, he highlighted the collaborative efforts within the Division and the shared vision and mission among commanders, which has enabled the execution of several welfare projects.
The GOC acknowledged the legacy aspect of such projects, as he said they stand the test of time and remain as a testament to the contributions made during one’s service. He encouraged other commanders and officers to engage in such legacy projects, emphasizing the importance of addressing accommodation challenges faced by soldiers within the barracks.
Major General Abdussalam also mentioned the ongoing efforts to improve living conditions, including the construction of two CBQ by the Division and renovation of 3 others by the Army Headquarters. These he said will significantly enhance the welfare of troops.
Earlier, CO 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ishaya Manga expressed gratitude on behalf of the officers and soldiers for the completion of the project. He attributed its success to divine grace and the support received from the GOC and the COAS, without which he said the project would have been brought to fruition.
He reiterated that the project was done in furtherance of the GOC’s Mission Statement succintly put “To have a proactive and result-oriented attitude among the officers and soldiers of 6 Division for sustainable operational tempo in a joint environment. This the CO averred was the driving force that enabled the Battalion to complete the project.
Lieuteanant Colonel Manga stated that the primary objective of the project was to address accommodation challenges and enhance the welfare of the troops, with a focus on reducing the burden on personnel. He extended his heartfelt appreciation to all the critical stakeholders that contributed to the successful completion of the project.
The event witnessed the symbolic commissioning of the project, including various activities such as unveiling the 8-flats CBQ commemorative plaque, facility tour, handing over keys to the beneficiaries, presentation of souvenir and a group photograph.
The event had in attendance commanders of 6 Division affiliated formations and units. It also attracted people from different walks of life who witnessed the ceremony.
