GOC 6 Division Commissions Newly Renovated Medical Facility At Wellington Bassey Barracks IbagwaIn a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of troops and their families, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA) and Land Component Commander (LCC), Joint Task Force (JTF), South South (SS), Operation DELTA SAFE (OPDS), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah has commissioned a newly renovated Medical Reception Station (MRS), at 6 Battalion, Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Friday, 15 August 2025.

Speaking at the event, the GOC/LCC JTF SS OPDS, Major General Emekah, emphasized that the NA, under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has remained committed to investing in the welfare and operational readiness of its personnel. He further stressed that healthcare is pivotal to achieving a combat-ready force. The GOC, commended the Commander, 2 Brigade, Brigadier General Alex Tawasimi and the Commanding Officer (CO), 6 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Mohammed for prioritizing the healthcare of the troops and their families. This he said is highly commendable and aligns perfectly with the COAS vision for the NA.

While welcoming, the GOC, the CO, 6 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the COAS, GOC and the Commander, 2 Brigade for their strategic guidance and support that brought the project to fruition. He assured that the medical facility would be well maintained to serve the purpose for which it was established. He further revealed that the MRS so far has recorded two successful surgical operations, a urinary bladder stone surgery and a cesarean section. He added that the hospital will also cater to the adjoining communities as part of 6 Battallion’s Civil-Military Relations activities.

The ceremony attracted community leaders and residents of Ibagwa, who showered praises on the NA for extending medical infrastructure to their area. They described the gesture as a milestone that would strengthen Civil-Military cooperation in Abak LGA and Akwa Ibom State at large.

The newly commissioned MRS is equipped with modern facilities, designed to provide quality and accessible healthcare services to personnel, their families, and the host community. The initiative reflects the NA’s broader commitment to improving medical support and boosting the morale of officers and soldiers.
