GOC 6 Division Declares Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition Open In Port Harcourt

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has declared open a 5-Day, 6 Division Inter Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition at 29 Battalion Parade ground, Port Harcourt Barracks. The event had officers across the formations and units within the Division’s Area of Responsibility(AOR).

While declaring the competition open, the GOC, who was the Special Guest of Honour, reiterated that the competition holds profound significance, not only as a testament to the athletic abilities of the officers, but also as a critical reflection of their operational readiness and effectiveness. He maintained that it will further equip officers of the Division with high level of professional dexterity.

The GOC was represented by the Commander, 6 Division, Garrison and Commander Sector 3, Joint Task Force, Operation DELTA SAFE, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed. He also said the skills to be showcased are not mere recreational but cornerstones of their missions successes in the future. “Proficiency in your survival combat for any readiness is not just a desirable trait but a fundamental requirement for any officer who seeks to excel in combat operations considering the dynamic and ever-evolving landscape of modern warfare in the nation most importantly, the 6 Division’s AOR”, he said.

Speaking further, the GOC affirmed that to navigate and thrive in combat environments has become increasingly crucial and as officers of the 6 Division, they are the guardians of the nation’s most vital asset within that is domiciled in the South South region and they are tasked with responsibility of securing the national infrastructure and ensuring the seamless flow of ‘strategic operations.

Major General Abdussalam enjoined them to be serious with the competition, as it will be a testamnent to their dedication, courage and untiring commitment to the service of our nation. Thus, whether it is the swift crossing of raging combat, the rescue of fellow comrades in distress, the execution of combat assaults or mastery of combat skills will directly contribute to the operational efficiency and combat readiness of the Division. He added that it will also inspire them to demonstrate to the world the unmatched competence of 6 Division with great pride and enthusiasm.

The 5 days competition has 3.2 kilometers fitness race, map reading, combat swimming, skill at arm’s/shooting and obstacle crossing with officers from the rank of Second Lieutenants to Majors, drawn from 2, 16, 63 Brigades and 6 Division Garrison to compete for the best.
