The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA) and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, on 2 December 2025 decorated two newly promoted Army Warrant Officers (AWOs) in Port Harcourt Barracks. The decoration ceremony, which attracted family members, friends and well-wishers, took place at the Headquarters, 6 Division Conference Room.
Speaking at the event, the GOC stated that AWO is the highest rank in the soldiers’ cadre and it takes not less than 30 years to attain the enviable rank in the NA. He added that those who benefited were among the few lucky ones from many that were qualified. He further said Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers are the bridge between the officers and other ranks. Hence, as RSMs, they must seek more knowledge on regimentation. This is because the system expects more from them in terms of value addition.
The GOC encouraged the newly decorated AWOs to redouble their efforts, despite limited time to serve in the NA. He urged them to obey constituted authority and their superiors in their daily routines, as well as mentor their subordinates.
While delivering his goodwill message, the Acting Deputy Director, Legal Services, Major Sunday Akinkumi, congratulated them on their new badge of ranks and added that loyalty to constitutional authority is sacrosanct. He also encouraged them to allow their family members to feel the impact of their new ranks.
Similarly, in his goodwill message, the RSM, Headquarters, 6 Division, AWO Cletus Etu, urged the newly decorated AWOs to redouble their efforts in discharging their responsibilities. He further encouraged them to always do the right thing and, above all, be loyal to the system.
