The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah has visited Bonny Island today, 14 February 2025, in continuation with his visit to critical stakeholders and units under command. On arrival, he was received by the Commanding Officer (CO), 146 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Oyemade Oyewumi.
While making his remarks, the GOC expressed delight with the synergy and cooperation that exists among security agencies in Bonny Island. This he said, aligns perfectly with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede’s command philosophy, which emphasised joint and multi-agency environment. He maintained that the significant leap in oil production could be attributed to the level of cooperation amongst agencies in the Niger Delta Region (NDR).
Speaking further, he asserted that collectively, security agencies have the capacity to do more, and possibly exceed the target set by the Federal Government of Nigeria for increase in oil output. He commended the troops for what they have achieved so far, urging them to sustain the trajectory. He however, cautioned them to be professional and desist from any form of illegality that would bring disrepute to the reputation of the NA. He further charged them to dominate the operational landscape in order to deny criminal elements freedom of action.
The GOC reassured troops that their welfare will be accorded the desired attention, inline with the COAS command philosophy. He commended the CO 146 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Oyewumi for the great job he is doing in the unit’s main and rear at Bonny and Calabar respectfully. He highlighted the infrastructural development as well as the various impactful welfare packages the CO inaugurated in the unit.
Earlier, the CO 146 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Oyemade Oyewumi briefed the GOC on the activities of the unit in Bonny Island and environs. Thereafter, the GOC was conducted through a tour of the critical national infrastructures on the Island. The places he visited included the Shell Production Development Company Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal (BOGT), and Train 7 of the Liquified Natural Gas Project Site, where he was also briefed on the activities of the facilities. While at BOGT and Train 7 Project Site, he interacted with their respective teams and was conducted through a virtual tour of the facilities.
