GOC 6 Division Re-Affirms Commitment To Safeguarding Critical Infrastructure As Oil Producers Trade Section Security Sub Committee Visits

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah has reaffirmed the commitment of the Division in protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as put an end to menace of Crude oil Theft (COT) in the Niger Delta Region (NDR). This was affirmed, when the GOC granted audience to the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS), Security Sub Committee, during an Advocacy visit to Headquarters, 6 Division in Port Harcourt Barracks on 26 March 2025.

The GOC reiterated that assessing the success of the Division could be tied to the successes of the oil companies in the NDR. Thus, the Division will ensure the menace of COT is reduced to the nearest minimum. He highlighted the critical role of the Division, which he pointed out is essentially to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, reassuring the team of the Division’s commitment in securing these assets. He maintained that Division would continue to adhere to the subsisting operational mandate of Operation DELTA SAFE in handling issues of COT in the region. He reassured them that his doors are always open for functional collaboration with critical stakeholders in the region.

While congratulating the GOC on his appointment, the Chairman, OPTS, Security Sub Committee, Dr Olusoji Fakunle underscored the support they have been enjoying from Government Security Agencies, especially the military in discharging their responsibilities in the NDR. Furthermore, he said anytime there is a change in command, they usually visit to formally introduce themselves, hence their visit to the GOC at the Division’s Headquarters.

Speaking further, Dr Fakunle said the current Government has given a marching order for oil production to ramped up to 2.2 million bpd, adding that efforts are ongoing amongst stakeholders to ensure that the target is achieved. He however, maintained that there are security challenges that needed to be mitigated, hence the need for a collaborative efforts in surmounting these challenges and ramp up oil production in line with the government’s directive in the NDR.
