
GOC 6 Division Re-echoes Whole Of Society Approach In Fight Against Oil Theft In Niger Delta
The issue of oil theft in the Niger Delta Region (NDR), needs a whole of society approach, with stakeholders demonstrating commitment to rid the region of oil theft and associated crimes. The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah made the call, when he hosted the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO), New Guard Security and Consultancy Services Limited (NGSCSL), Major General Jamil Sarham at Headquarters, 6 Division, Port Harcourt Barracks on 24 February 2025.
Speaking further, the GOC called on all stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to synergise in ensuring increase in exploration activities in the region. He highlighted the Division’s primary responsibility, which he said is the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure in the hydro carbon domain, as well as providing security in the region.
He reassured NGSCSL of his support and further emphasized that he is open to any form of partnership, that would be in the interest of increased oil production. He stated, “As a government entity, we are committed to partnering with other security agencies and government organisations to achieve success.”
Earlier, the MD/CEO, NGSCSL, Major General Jamil Sarham (Retired) stated that he was at the Division to strengthen security collaboration in the realm of industry security architecture network, intelligence, and other security domains. He stressed that “The newly appointed GOC requires local security collaboration, particularly in safeguarding critical national infrastructure, such as pipeline protection, crude oil theft, militancy, and other criminal activities.”
Major General Sarham reassured of his organizations commitment in supporting Government Security Agencies (GSAs) to carry out their responsibilities effectively. He highlighted NGSCSL substantial contributions to 6 Division in the area of intelligence operations, due to their profound understanding of the operating environment, and a clear understanding of the role of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the region.
He stated that NGSCSL collaborates with various private security agencies, and basically interface between them and the GSAs, by providing precise information that will assist in the conduct of operations. He expressed the readiness of his outfit in sustaining its support to the Division to achieve the desired end-state.
