GOC 8 Division Nigerian Army Declares Open Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition

In a bid to enhance the capabilities and preparedness of 8 Division troops in fulfilling its critical responsibilities, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ajose has declared open the 8 Division Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition 2025. The event which was hosted by 8 Division Garrison kicked off at 26 Battalion Parade Ground Giginya Cantonment Sokoto on 7 April 2025. The participating formations include 1 Brigade, 17 Brigade, 8 Division Garrison, 48 Engineers Brigade, and 58 Signals Brigade,

Declaring a one-week competition opened, the Special Guest of Honour and GOC, Major General Ibikunle Ajose who was represented by the Commander 78 Supply and Transport Brigade, Brigadier General Moses Ikobah remarked that the competition was part of the strategies designed to improve junior leadership, organizational ability and initiative in the stipulated rank bracket of Non-Commissioned Officers in the Division’s formations, which he said is in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, which is “To Consolidate the Transformation of the Nigerian Army towards Bequeathing a Well-Motivated and Combat-Ready Force that can Effectively Discharge its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment”.

The GOC urged the participants to compete keenly by putting in their best and win laurels for their various formations they represent, stressing that they should take advantages of what the competition will offer and reflect on why the competition was organised and the objective it sets to achieve. He commended the efforts of the troops in dealing with all forms of security threat in their various formations.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Jibia Muhammed stated that the competition is organised to improve junior leadership, inculcating in them good traits, organisational ability, promote esprit-de-corps among troops, and to build inter-formations and units relationship. He urged the participants to make new friends and learn from each other.

The opening ceremony was graced by commanders of various participating formations, heads of security agencies in Sokoto and staff officers from Headquarters 8 Division. The event will feature map reading, swimming, weapon handling, drill, obstacle crossing, amongs others.
