GOC 82 Division Commissions 44 Engineer Brigade Officers’ Transit Accommodation and Commanders’ Guest Chalet In Enugu

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army (NA) and Commander Joint Task Force (JTF) South-East (SE) Operation UDO KA (OPUK) Maj Gen Oluremi Fadairo has commissioned 2 projects in Abakpa Cantonment, Enugu.

The projects which include, Officers Transit Accomodation and the Commander 44 Engineer Brigade Guest Chalet in Abakpa Cantonment were conceptualised, funded and constructed by the immediate past Commander of 44 Engineer Brigade, Brig Gen OC Onovwiona who is currently the Director Leadership Development Institute at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre.

Giving his remarks during the ceremony, the GOC/ Comd JTF SE OPS UDO KA, Maj Gen OA Fadairo applauded the sponsor and project executioner, Brig Gen OC Onovwiona for his foresight and unwavering commitment to enhancing the living and working conditions of personnel of the Brigade. He charged beneficiaries to take ownership of the facilities and ensure proper maintenance so that the facility will continue to serve its purpose in the years to come. He further encouraged other commanders to learn from the gesture of the senior officer in order to improve their personnel wellbeing.

Speaking earlier during the event, the initiator and sponsor of the projects, Brig Gen OC Onovwiona said

he was inspired by one of the 3 pillars of the late Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TA Lagbaja’s Command Philosophy to improve the troops welfare by providing a conducive living and working environment for them. He further said he is happy that the project will also be in line with 2 of the 5 pillars of the COAS, Lt Gen W Shaibu’s Command philosophy which speaks to robust administration and exemplary leadership. According to him, the COAS philosophy takes the welfare of officers and soldiers as paramount. He said the transit accommodation was constructed for use by officers of the brigade while the other project is to serve as the guest chalet for the Commander 44 Engineer Brigade.

He expressed his sincere gratitude to the GOC for making out time to commission the project.

In his welcome address during the event, the Commander 44 Engineer Brigade, Brig Gen OD Bello said the newly completed projects were carefully designed to enhance troops welfare, operational readiness and overall efficiency. He expressed gratitude to the GOC 82 Div for finding time to grace the occasion out of his tight schedules.

The event featured the commissioning and unveiling of the 2 projects, tour of their facilities, symbolic presentation of keys to the beneficiaries as well as group photograph.
