GOC Commissions Newly Remodelled 6 Military Intelligence Brigade Block, Calls For Value Addition By Commanders
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, today, 12 January 2026, charged commanders at all levels to effectively prioritise value addition in the NA. He made the call while commissioning a remodelled and completely renovated 6 Military Intelligence Brigade (MIB) Block of 12 Flats, Corporal Below Quarters (CBQ), at Port Harcourt Barracks. The project undertaken by the Commander, 6 MIB, Brigadier General David Umaru, to create a conducive living environment for troops and their families.
The GOC stated that every living thing needs shelter, adding that the newly renovated CBQ will serve as a morale booster to the troops. This, he said, aligns perfectly with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu’s Command Philosophy, which places emphasis on sound administration, with focus on the provision of accommodation and other welfare services to troops and their families.
Furthermore, the GOC disclosed that during the recent visit of the COAS to 6 Division, he magnanimously approved the construction of additional blocks to address the accommodation challenges in the Division.
Major General Emekah called on commanders not to delay in embarking on people-centric projects upon assumption of command, stressing that this will reflect positively on the lives of troops and their families. He also called on the beneficiaries to see the edifice as personal property, noting that due to the number of years spent at a particular place, wards sometimes see the accommodation as their family house.
Earlier, the Commander, 6 MIB, Brigadier General David Umaru, stated that upon assumption of command in July 2025, he carried out an inspection to ascertain the living conditions of troops under his command and realised that they were not befitting. Hence, he undertook the remodelling and complete renovation of the block to make life more comfortable for his personnel. He thanked the GOC and other commanders for their tremendous support that led to the timely completion of the project, adding that their support has brought the project to fruition.
Expressing her joy on behalf of the occupants of the block, Mrs Rose Duniya thanked the GOC and the Commander, 6 MIB, for the project. She said the project has made life meaningful to them and pledged to take good care of the newly renovated block.
