GOC Commits To Building A Highly Mobile and Technically Proficient Force

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah has reiterated the Division’s readiness to building a highly mobile and technically proficient force through targeted training initiatives. He made this during the inauguration ceremony of Drivers’ Basic Course 2/2025, organised by Headquarters 76 Supply and Transport Brigade at the 6 Division Training School, Port Harcourt Barracks.

The GOC, represented by the Chief of Staff, Headquarters, 6 Division, Brigadier General Dawha Emmanuel Adamu, noted that the course is aimed at equipping selected personnel with basic driving and maintenance skills for handling Class “B” military vehicles. He emphasized that drivers and equipment support play a pivotal role in enhancing mobility and sustaining operational momentum in military campaigns. He further stressed the importance of adopting a sound maintenance culture in order to preserve the integrity of military assets.

Major General Emekah described the training as an integral part of the Division’s effort to align with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy of bequeathing a well-motivated and combat-ready force capable of discharging its constitutional responsibilities in a joint and multi-agency environment. He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining training and promoting professionalism as tools to improve operational effectiveness across the Division.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander, 76 Supply and Transport Brigade, Brigadier General Ogbonnaya Igwe stated that the course was conceived to develop driving proficiency, enhance transportation capability and improve vehicle maintenance standards across units and formations within the Division. He noted that 60 students have been drawn from across the Division to participate in a 12-week intensive programme, which will feature both theoretical and practical modules including convoy operations, fault-finding, long-distance driving,vehicle servicing amongst others.

Brigadier General Igwe also revealed that guest instructors from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) would complement the training efforts and support the issuance of driver’s licences to successful participants. He charged the students to remain disciplined, focused, and committed throughout the course, noting that only those found worthy in character and learning would be certified as military drivers and their licence facilitated by the FRSC.
