Gombe office of EFCC Secures 10 Conviction in Q1 2018
The Gombe Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC secured ten convictions for various offences related to economic and financial crimes and recovered a total sum of N130m in the first quarter of 2018.
This was disclosed today by the Zonal Head Mr. Johnson Babalola at a meeting with members of the Correspondents Chapel in Gombe, Gombe State..
Babalola used the forum to educate the people that corruption is not synonymous with fraud only. In his view, corruption also entails vices such as sabotage of the system, violation of due process for personal gain, nepotism, giving jobs to unqualified people, buying certificates for employment and bribery.
He said though corruption is fighting back through various means, the Commission is encouraged by the commitment of the current political leadership of the country and the courage of Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC.
On the whistle blowing policy, Babalola urged prospective whistle blowers to verify their information in order not to mislead investigators. He warned that any one who gave wrong information to the Commission would be prosecuted.
Finally, he thanked the media for their support to the EFCC. “We can’t report ourselves unless through you, I really appreciate your help and support, indeed we are partners in progress. Though fighting corruption is a thankless job, you should have the courage of fighting it”.
