
Governor Bala Mohammed Commends NAAC Troops For Professionalism and Dedication
The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has commended troops of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps (NAAC) for their professionalism, resilience and unwavering commitment to the defence of the nation, as well as the protection of lives and property. The commendation was conveyed through the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters, Honourable Chiroma Siyi on Saturday, 31 January 2026 during the West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025 celebration.
The Governor emphasized that security remains a shared responsibility and underscored the importance of Civil–Military Cooperation. He expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by troops, many of whom serve in difficult and hazardous environments far from their families. According to him, WASA provides an opportunity to reflect on the core military values of service, sacrifice and patriotism, while also celebrating Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and national unity.
He encouraged troops to use the occasion further to strengthen the bond between the military and civilian population, promoting harmony, tolerance and mutual understanding.
The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for lawful and constructive initiatives aimed at improving security, sustaining peace and advancing development within the state. He congratulated NAAC on the successful organization of the event and wished participants a peaceful and memorable celebration.
In his welcome address, the Commander Armoured Corps, Major General Umar Abubakar, praised officers and soldiers of the Corps for their dedication to national security. He noted that while many citizens celebrate with their families, numerous troops remain deployed on the frontlines under demanding operational conditions. The Commander highlighted key achievements recorded by NAAC during the year, including: Successful hosting of Combat Arms Training Week 2025, Construction of 10 transit officers’ flats, Construction of a 30-man-soldiers accommodation block and conduct of end-of-year training exercises, culminating in a combined arms exercise code-named Exercise MUGUN BUGU.
Reaffirming his commitment to troops’ welfare, he outlined several initiatives undertaken, such as the conversion of barracks’ boreholes to solar-powered systems, repairs to sewage infrastructure, engagement of medical consultants to visit the barracks medical reception at list 4 times weekly and upgrades the facilities in the NAOWA School to enhance educational standards for children of personnel.
The WASA event, which promotes unity, cultural diversity and Civil–Military Cooperation was attended by senior officers from various security agencies and members of the host and barracks communities.
Major highlights included the ceremonial campfire, cultural troupe performances and the presentation of awards to outstanding soldiers of the year 2025.
