

Governor Dikko Commend 17 Brigade For Improved Security In Katsina
His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Katsina State Malam Umaru Dikko Radda, has commended the Nigerian Army for the improved security enjoyed in 2024 within the state. The governor who was the Special Guest of Honor for the 17 Brigade Nigerian Army West African Social Activity (WASA) 2024 held on Saturday 25 January 2025 at Natsinat Barracks Katsina State, to mark end of the successful year 2024 operational activities.
Representing the Governor of Katsina State, the commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Ma’azu Dan-Musa commended the Brigade for its outstanding performance in the previous year especially in the area of security and glaring improvement in civil military relations. He urged the people to continue to support the Army and other security agencies to consolidate on the successes achieved in 2024.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander 17 Brigade, Brigadier General BO Omopariola noted that WASA is an age long annual event in the military which provides opportunities to bring officers, soldiers, and families as well as locals from the host communities together to associate in a social manner. He added that year 2024 has been quite eventful for the Brigade as it recorded significant achievements in its operational engagements.
He also noted that the year was not without challenges as some gallant officers and soldiers paid the supreme prizes in the line of duty. He however maintained that the Brigade will remain committed to its mandate and strengthening bond between its personnel and the host communities through the promotion of culture and traditions.
The event was well attended by an array of special guests from the Katsina State Government, traditional rulers, senior military officers, both serving and retired and many other dignitaries from various sectors. Other special guests include heads of paramilitary and other security agencies in katsina state
The event was colourful with series of cultural displays, cultural dance, thug of war between the corp members of brigade and Barrack women as well as the display of variety cuisines and dishes.
The event ended with superlative performances by the Brigade Band and the blowing of the Last Post before the lighting of the bonfire by the SGOH.
