GOVERNOR OBIANO CONDEMNS RECENT KILLINGS IN ANAMBRA.
Governor Willie Obiano has condemned in strong terms the recent security challenges and killings in Anambra State.
In a state wide broadcast, the Governor stated that he had got briefings from security agencies domiciled in the State to suggest that these attacks are co-ordinated and perpetuated by a faceless group whose target are political party structures and other innocent citizens.
The Governor stated that these attacks have brazenly taken the lives of no less than ten persons in the past two days, including that of Dr Chike Akunyili, the spouse of the late Prof Dora Akunyili, who was senselessly murdered at Nkpor, near Onitsha, yesterday.
The Governor said he has charged all the security agencies in the State to confront the insecurity monsters in the state with all the weapons in their arsenal
He also made a call to all Anambra citizens and residents to co-operate with the State Government in tackling those he referred to as “Common enemies”.
“I urge you now to join forces with us to confront this common enemy. We cannot condone this savagery for any reason whatsoever. I therefore call on all our youths in the State to rise up and protect our communities. Traditional Rulers, Presidents General, Clergy men, Vigilante Groups and all leadership structures must now take responsibility and in conjunction with the Police, Military and other Law Enforcement Agencies, work to restore order to a once peaceful State”.
The Governor also announced a twenty million Naira (N20,000,000.00) reward for any useful information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators of these heinous attacks in Anambra State.
He consoled the families who have lost loved ones and properties in recent times in the course of the attacks and promised that the State will ensure justice is served in all the cases. He adviced the people to go about about their lawful endeavours and ensure to liaise and share intelligence with security agencies from time to time in order to nip the insecurity challenge ges in the bud.
