Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has declared today, Wednesday, June 23, as a public holiday in the State to mourn the State’s Commissioner for Infrastructural Development, Fidelis Nweze, who recently passed away.
Nweze, a two-time Commissioner in the State, was involved in a ghastly motor accident that occurred on Saturday during a trip to Enugu, sustaining intense injuries.
The commissioner in the company of his driver rammed into a stationary vehicle at the busy Eke Obinagu axis of Enugu North Local Government Area at about 7.30pm, the report stated.
Nweze finally gave up the ghost at the Intensive Care Unit of the Turkish Hospital, Abuja after battling for life, on Monday June 21.
Umahi, who made the declaration in a statement on Tuesday in Abakaliki, directed that all offices and markets be shut in the State and declared a four-day mourning period to elapse on June 26.
He said; “All government officials in collaboration with the state branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) would organise prayer and fasting sessions all through the mourning period.
“We have to pray for his family and the ring-road project which he was the chairman of its committee for the past six years,
He described Nweze as his younger brother, son and indispensable pillar of his administration since 2015.
