The Greatest Quotes of Muhammad Ali, and the Best Tributes as he Passes on
Nothing lasts forever, and silver-tongued boxer and rights activist, Muhammad Ali was no exception.
The legendary boxer, who thrilled the world with his fists and lips, passed away Friday at a Phoenix-area hospital, aged 74.
Three-time world heavyweight champion, Ali, had given in to respiratory complications following three decades of living with Parkinson’s disease.
The world mourns the passing of an icon, one who called himself “The greatest”, and spent a lifetime living up to it.
Here are some of the greatest quotes from the deepest mind and sharpest tongue in the history of sport.
“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. His hands can’t hit what his eyes can’t see. Now you see me, now you don’t. George thinks he will, but I know he won’t.” – On his great rival George Foreman.
“I’ve wrestled with alligators. I’ve tussled with a whale. I done handcuffed lightning and throw thunder in jail. You know I’m bad. Just last week, I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalised a brick. I’m so mean, I make medicine sick.” – On himself
“Don’t count the days; make the days count” – Before knocking out Sonny Liston
“If they can make penicillin out of moldy bread, they can sure make something out of you” – On Life
“I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion” – On Training and Life
“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing” On his accomplishments
“If you dream of beating me, you’d better wake up and apologise”
“The man who has no imagination has no wings.” – On Life
“It will be a killer, and a chiller, and a thriller, when I get the gorilla in Manila” – On his epic fight with Joe Frazier
From Naomi Campbell to Floyd Mayweather and David Beckham, the biggest names across all spheres of life have joined in paying tribute to the incomparable Ali
