Guards Brigade Harnesses Cultural Heritage Through Inter Units Cultural Competition

As part of efforts geared towards harnessing hidden potentials and cultural heritage inherent amongst soldiers wards and children in Guards Brigade Barracks Area of Responsibility (AOR), the Commander Guards Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig Gen Aminu Umar on 6th June 2023 organized an Inter units cultural dance competition aimed at preparing the Brigade for future national event.

The Competition according to the Commander who was represented by the Brigade Chief of Staff, Col Peter Oyegoke, said the competition was organized to nurture the barracks community for national and future events which the Brigade may be participating in. Stressing that the barracks community represent Nigeria with all tribes and cultural heritage present within it’s environment.

The event which featured five different cultural troupes by the units under the Brigade was to further represent the major ethnic groups that made up Nigeria.They ethnic groups includes Igbo,Yoruba ,Hausa Fulani, Gbagyi as well as the Tiv and Calabar . The participating units were, 7Guards Battalion, Maitama, 102 Guards Battalion Suleja, 177Guards Battalion Keffi, 176 Gaurds Battalion Gwagwalada and Guards Brigade Garrison Asokoro.

The Commander while appreciating the panel of judges drawn from the Ministry of Information and Culture also congratulated the participants for showcasing the very best of their cultural heritage.

High point of the competition was the display by the various unit’s cultural troupes, announcement of result by the panel of judges and presentation of souvenirs as well as gift items to deserving winners. At the end of the very exciting display by the participants, Gaurds Brigade Garrison came first, 7 Guards Battalion came second while 177, 176 and 102 Gaurds Battalions came third, fourth and fifth respectively.

The Competition was well attended by Commanding Officers of Units under the Brigade, officers as well as personnel and their families.
