Intelligence have gathered that gunmen have kidnapped Senator Nelson Effiong, the immediate past Senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket Senatorial District).
Sources say the victim was kidnapped by three armed hoodlums at his lounge along Oron Road, Uyo, on Sunday night.
Intelligence gathered that the assailants stormed the lounge around 9pm with a Toyota Camry car and started shooting sporadically, prompting customers and other guests to scamper for safety before whisking the former Senator away.
Eight of the customers were injured in a resulting stampede as the patrons scampered for safety amid sound of bullets randomly fired by the gunmen.
