Gunmen Kill Two as They Abduct Oba in Lagos

Unknown gunmen suspected to be militants killed two people on Saturday night and abducted the monarch of Iba Local Council Development Area in Lagos, Oba Goriola Oseni.

The Nation newspaper reports that one of those killed was the father of the former chairman of Iba LCDA, Romata Osenui-Adeyeri.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen also killed one of the monarch’s guards and injured several people. Some residents who tried to stop the suspected kidnappers from taking their monarch ran for their lives when shooting by the gunmen became too intense. The monarch was taken hostage as the gunmen fled through the waterways.

According to residents, the gunmen stormed the community in a speedboat, shooting indiscriminately. Oba Oseni’s eldest wife was injured and rushed to an unnamed hospital.

“It’s true that the Kabiyesi was kidnapped. His abductors struck through the waterways and fled through same channel. Policemen from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) went there and an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) has been stationed.

“Various operations have been going on since last week particularly around Ikorodu. Policemen are still at Ishawo following the attack by militants and there were gunshots at Agbede,” a source said.
