Biyi Bandele’s Half Of A Yellow Sun premiered in New York City on May 9. An adaptation of the book by Chimamanda Adichie, the film was the centerpiece during the 21st New York African Film Festival held from May 7 to May 13 at the Lincoln Center’s Film Society’s Walter Reade Theater.
The Director, Biyi Bandele, actor Anika Noni Rose and OC Okeji attended the event.
However, the Nigerian censorship board has not been issued certification for the film to premier there and no specific explanations offered. It is suspected that the contents of the film setting during the Biafran war might awaken old wounds.
