Why Headies Award Disqualified Tekno From “Next Rated Category”
The organisers of the Headies Awards have disqualified Tekno from the Next Rated category – the only category he was nominated for in the 2016 edition of the Nigerian music award.
According to NET, this decision was taken after the Pana singer failed to join in the media promotion of the awards on social media, a prerequisite all nominated artistes must partake in.
‘We reached out to them repeatedly, using personal contacts and official channels. They promised he’ll come but he did not. They were clearly aware of the consequences,’ a source told the media house.
But, did the singer intentionally stay away from the media promotions?
Recall that hours after he was nominated for the Next Rated category, the Triple MG star took to his Instagram to diss the Headies, hinting that he had outgrown that category.
“Next Rated after how many years! Please, let’s be honest,” he wrote on his Instagram, and fans hopped on HipTV’s page to drag the organisers for ‘belittling’ their star.
Though the organisers later schooled him on why he got the nod, the singer dissociated himself from the promotions. Hence why the nomination was withdrawn.
